An unofficial implementation of the board game Kulami, designed by Andreas Kuhnekath.
The board is made of wooden panels of different sizes. A panel goes to whoever holds more of its holes — and it's worth its size, not the number of marbles you put there. A tied panel goes to nobody.
So a 6-hole panel is worth 6 whether you took it 4–2 or 2–1. Winning big panels cheaply is the whole game.
The first move can go anywhere. After that, your marble must go in the same row or column as the marble your opponent just played.
Rows and columns run the full width of the board — they carry straight across gaps and empty holes.
You can't play in the panel your opponent just used, or in the panel you used on your previous turn. Both are outlined on the board, coloured by whoever played there.
A panel isn't settled until it's full, so filling one early hands your opponent the tempo.
The game ends the moment the player to move has no legal option — every row-and-column square is taken, or blocked, or they're out of marbles. Panels are then scored and the totals compared.
Each player's largest connected group of their own marbles is measured. Squares connect up, down, left and right — diagonals don't count.
Whoever has the bigger group adds the difference to their score. A 9-square group against a 6 is worth 3 points, not 9.
On top of areas: any straight line of 5 or more of your marbles is a chain. Horizontal, vertical and diagonal all count, and the marbles must be genuinely adjacent.
Add up the length of every chain you have. Whoever's total is higher adds the difference to their score.
A house variant, not from the original rulebook: chains score exactly as in Level 2, but connected areas don't count at all. Pure line-building, no group-shape scoring.
